Sir Elton John visits Westmorland

Sir Elton John – a man who has sold more than 300 million records world wide, had more than fifty top forty UK singles and seven consecutive number one US albums, last month visited the Westmorland County Showground – near the Kendal & the Lake District – to perform his ‘first and last’ South Cumbrian show to a crowd of revellers, in numbers greater than ten thousand, deliver what was the latest show of his current European tour.

A weeks worth of preparation to erect the staging and construct the ‘arena’ paved the way for Sir Elton’s South two and a half hour Lake District performance – and despite the weather’s best efforts to dampen the mood – the crowd never faltered and smiled through the cold, singing their hears from start to finish.  Sir Elton, 68, arrived in by helicopter to follow the well received support act Bright Light Bright Light, who originate Wales, and entertained the audience with all his most recognisable songs including Tiny Dancer & Candle in the Wind.

Waters Edge Caravan Park played host to many of the concert’s patrons, enjoying a packed weekend of revellers and music too, with our campsite being situated just a short walk away from the County Showground.  Next up in the Westmorland County Showgrounds calendar is the annual County Show event, being held on Thursday, September 10 from 8am until 5.30pm.  If you’re looking for a long weekend away in September, why not consider the Westmorland County show and relax before and after at our nearby caravan site in the Lake District.
